Today is an exciting day on Nicole In Every Colour because we are starting our new Disney 101 series! I have blogged about Disney once before, when Jack and I went to Disneyland and California Adventure. However, those posts were more of a “heres what we did” then “why did we do it this way” post!
A couple of weeks ago, we were in Disney World and I felt inspired to share that part of my life with you. Growing up, we have always gone to Disney World. Yes, we visited other places, but Disney was and will always be our favorite. And when I say “our”.. I am talking about my entire family! Around the 90s my grandparents signed up for the Disney Vacation Club, so pretty much after that, we were hooked.
So, here we are, our first Disney 101 featured post! As I have grown, my love for Disney has only grown, and I noticed all of the information I actually have on the subject.
We normally visit Disney during the summer, but with the kiddos, my sister thought it would be best for us to go in January, with it not being too busy or hot. Since we have not visited in January for a number of years, I had NO IDEA what to pack. Literally, no idea. Therefore, I went to my trusty friend, Google. And y’all.. I googled and googled and googled to try and find someone to tell me what I should wear to in Florida in January. And found nothing. So that is where we are going to start!
Disney 101: Dressing for Disney in January
Let me first start out by saying that our weather was unusual for Florida. It never reached past 60 degrees I believe, minus on our last day. However, the nights do get a little chilly this time of year, so you need to be prepared!
The most important item to have in your suitcase when traveling to Disney in January are your pants. I brought two pairs of regular denim jeans, red jeans, and black/white denim. If you are a lighter packer, you can definitely limit it to two pants. Always make sure you have at least two options though.
Next up is shoes. Unless it is super warm out, keep those flip flops at home! If you plan on using the heated pools, you can bring one pair, but don’t plan on wearing them to the parks. I am an over packer, so I did bring a good amount of shoes. lol Make sure to have a solid pair of sneakers and a cute pair for dinners or nights. Keep those heels at home too! You will have to walk SO much everywhere, so comfort over fashion at Disney when it comes to the shoes.
Besides staying warm and comfortable, keeping your looks “fashionable” is still possible in cooler weather at Disney! Each day I wore my black fleece North Face jacket, but then I always made sure to layer. Layering is the most amazing thing ever and you can do it with pretty much anything. Staying warm, does not mean that you cannot still be fabulous!
& finally.. bringing a change of clothes to the parks! Like I said above, we had chilly weather during the day, and it was straight up cold at night. Normally during this time of the year, it is just chilly at night. If you are lucky enough to get this weather, throw a pair of pants and/or a jacket in your bag so you can still rock your shorts during the day! Staying prepared is so important because no one wants to be cold and miserable at Disney. Most importantly, no matter what the weather, remember that you are at Disney.. so sometimes we just have to suck it up and buy a Starbucks to stay warm! 🙂
