When planning our honeymoon, we knew we wanted to do something different. To help this trip stand out from the rest! After some research on all the of tours and different events, we decided to book the Wild Africa Trek at 8am.
Visiting in July, we knew we wanted to go to the earliest time so we wouldn’t have to battle the heat in the afternoon. We had to be at the front gates of Animal Kingdom at 7:30am, and you cannot be late. Since we weren’t totally sure on the bus times that early in the morning, we decided to take a Minnie Van via Lyft to the park. This helped us know that we would arrive on time, and to be honest.. it was fun taking the Minnie Van!
Will we go on the Wild Africa Trek again? Yes.
Was it worth the money? Yes.
Here are four reasons you should book the Wild Africa Trek during your next Disney Vacation…
One
You get to go backstage and learn tons about the park. Backstage is much different, well I assume it is, from like Magic Kingdom. The backstage at Animal Kingdom shows where the animals can be moved if they need to be “off stage” and you are pretty much just walking on the trails. Make sure to wear good walking shoes! The guides {who are absolutely wonderful} let you know when you can and cannot take photos. I won’t give any spoilers, but it was so interesting learning how they keep the magic while still keeping the animals as their focus.
Two
Seeing the animals up close. But not too close! During the tour, you get to get VERY close to hippos, walk above the alligators, and actually stop for the safari animals! If you don’t know, when you are on the safari ride, they are not really allowed to stop. However, during the trek, you get to stop at pretty much all large group of animals.
My favorite part was learning about the park’s dedication to animal conservation. Every animal stop, we would learn about what they are doing to help that species. Proceeds from all park tickets, and the cost of our tour, are given to Disney’s Animal Conversation Fund. At the end of the tour, you get to put a rock in the wooden box to pick what animal you want your money to go too! We picked the Giraffes!
Three
You get to eat snacks on the savanna, well Disney’s savanna! Let me say.. the snacks are definitely unique. They snacks are African-inspired, so you might need to stop for a Mickey pretzel after your tour before heading in the park. The best part of the snack break was the view. It was beautiful. The hut in the back of the giraffes is where your snack break is! ps.. they have actual bathrooms too, which is nice.
Four
You receive the BEST complimentary photos! Ever since I can remember, photographs have been so important to me. We always buy memory maker for our Disney trips, and if I have less than 10,000 photos in my phone, something is wrong. {yes, I know I need to take them off. ha!}
Throughout the whole tour, the guides are taking photos of you individually, group photos, and trying to grab great shots of the animals. But that isn’t the best part.. you get all of the best photos ever taken on the tours! So, if the lions weren’t having it that day, you could still get a really awesome photo of them on the rocks. You can take your own camera with you, and I did. However, it has to have strap and be able to hang from your vest in a pocket. I didn’t really take a ton of pictures and just enjoyed the moment since I knew we were getting them! It was very nice.
Let’s be real, I could probably talk about this tour all day long. Of course there are about 60 other reason you should go on this tour too. Walking across the bridge with alligators under you is just one of them! Make sure to read the “Know Before You Go” section on the website to make sure this is a good fit for you and your family. We will definitely be doing the Wild African Trek again, and we cannot wait to bring others along with us!
