Welcome to my #PinterestFail…..
Mini Caramel Apples
Who else loves to eat caramel apples?! Jackson only ever eats the caramel off of the apple, never the actual apple! 🙂
I found many different recipes on how to create these adorable mini caramel apples, and they honestly did not look that difficult!
At first my plan was to peel all of the apples {I used four!} but ended up only peeling two because it was taking forever. I ended up liking, and found it was easier to make the hole with the skin on. In the words of my nephew Derek I used the thing that has “two spoons on it” to make my rounds! lol Make sure to dry off the apples too!
I was very pleased with how these turned out once I figured out that you needed to keep the skin on and push hard.
Next, I melted the caramel. I read that you needed to add a little bit of water before melting so thats what I did. You think I would know a little more about baking since I watch so many Food Network shows! Oops!
In the original post I found on how to make these, it said to allow the caramel to cool or it would just fall right off the apples. Make sense so after I melted all of the caramel, I started to add my lollipop sticks into the apples. Make sure to not press too hard because the apples will break it half… trust me. I found that just twisting them into the apple worked well.
After I waited… and waited.. and waited for the caramel to cool. I tried about 4-5 times to see if it was cool enough, but it never worked.. insert image below. ha! So melty!
I literally could not figure this out. I waited a good 20-30 minutes and the caramel was stillllll sliding off. Mom came to the rescue and told me to put the caramel in the fridge for a little bit, so I listened. BUT I also put my cut apples in the fridge.. insert big mistake.
I think this would have worked if the apples were still at room temperature and not all watery like they were from the fridge. That was definitely #usererror.
I finally took the caramel out of the fridge and it was actually easier to mold than I thought it would be {since it was easier to mold, I feel like it would of worked if I did not screw up my apples! oops!}. After about 6 tries, I threw it to the birds and wrote it down as another Pinterest Fail!
When in doubt.. loose the sticks and just eat dip the apples in the caramel yourself!
What is your biggest Pinterest Fail?!
XXOO,
