Hi friends! Jackson and I have returned from California and I am so excited to share our trip with you. BUT first, we need to talk about my new fav mobile boutique, Hello Ruby!! Ah, I cannot believe that her opening is just 6 days away!! Gals, I was able to get a preview of her items and they are so freakin’ adorable, I just literally #cannot deal. Besides her super fabulous items, her truck is all rose gold and marble, which you all know I am obsessed with!
I will be sharing one of my favorite items that I grabbed on Thursday, but let’s get to know Jill, the brain behind the operation today. I asked Jill a series of questions so y’all could get to know why she does what she does!
Alright, here we go..
Q: Where did you find the inspiration for Hello Ruby?
The inspiration for hello ruby came from a vacation I was taking with my family in Lake Okoboji. I walked into a renovated RV boutique that was there for the vacationers. It was adorable and I wanted to take it back to Omaha. The second I got back from vacation I started googling “fashion trucks” and “mobile boutiques” – it was something that was way bigger than I thought. There’s an association, there are Instagrams, there are people doing what I wanted to do. After many conversations with my husband, we took the leap with buying a van!
Q: Why did you decide to name the shop after your dog, Ruby?
We had many names before hello ruby. I really liked names with words like traveling and wandering because of the mobile aspect, but none were unique. My husband came up with the name hello ruby. I call him CIO (Chief Inspiration Officer) 🙂
Q: When did you become interested in fashion?
I have always been interested in a deal especially when it comes to clothing! I’m not looking for the cheapest, but cheapest for the best quality. I remember a denim skort I had when I was 8 that I loved it!! It had a chain red plastic smiley face hanging on it and I wanted it to be removable when necessary. My parents said that I needed to pick if it was on or off and I remember being disappointed because I wanted the option to choose if it was on or off.
Q: Three words to describe Hello Ruby:
classic, timeless, contemporary
Q: What excites you about owning your own business?
I have called myself a “wantrepreneur” — I tried to make my own lip balm 5 or so years ago. FAIL. I wasn’t passionate about it and had no idea what I was doing. I wanted to be my own boss and this is the business plan that makes sense.
Q: What type of style is Hello Ruby going to focus on?
I can’t wait for everyone to see the clothes! Honestly, there are many types of styles that will be in the truck. Most are contemporary styles and there are some classics that you can have for 5 years and wear every day.
Q: What age range do you believe Hello Ruby will attract?
18-38 is my target!
Q: Where do you see your business in five years?
I would love to open a second truck with a vintage approach… 2 trucks would be amazing! With that, I would need employees, which is exciting too!
Q: So, you went to Magic for the first time in February, what was the most important thing you learned?
IT WAS AMAZING. I had a lot of people who have been that helped me get prepared. People can be so sweet to help a sista out and make introductions for me. I met a buyer, Blythe. My sister has been many times so she was a huge help. My sister-in-law’s friend, Ali, owns an online boutique and had so many great suggestions. Without them I would have been walking aimlessly around. I also brought my friend Jenna who was great for the process. She is very business savvy (+ stylish) and cares for me so wants what is best for the business. It’s hard to find friendships, which are 100% honest. My friend Erin has been supportive from just listening. I feel selfish lately – talking about my business all the time, but that’s what friends are for, right?! 🙂
Q: Top 3 trends for spring?
Off the shoulder tops – we have some with ruffles
Deep V rompers – we have some with wide sleeves
Beige and tan clothing
Q: Why should gals shop at Hello Ruby?
It’s so different than any other experience! Group events are fun with the girls or just stopping by a pop-up! It’s unique and something to talk about with your friends. You can still try on clothes like a traditional boutique, but it’s a different experience!
